A Short History of St. Joseph School
The religious institute of the Sisters of our Lady of Fatima, which has its generalate in Pune, was founded in 1893 in Bellary, Karnataka, by Servant of Francis Xavier Kroot MHM.
His intense love and zeal to spread the love of God inspired him to work for all, especially for the liberation of the poor women. The Vision of our founder inspires us to be educators in joy and hope to build a society based on love and brotherhood.
As early as 1954, there were repeated requests made to Fatima Sisters by the Tunag-Bhadra Board (TBB) officials to open a nursery school at the Dam site. The Dam officials had seen the Sisters running a school in Hospet effectively not too far away from the area. Because of lack of personnel, the nursery school could not be started at that time. Later in 1960, Mother Passion, the Superior General, with the permission of the Bishop of Bellary, started St Joseph's nursery school in the premises of the church with nine children. Ten years later, the English medium school was opened in the place given by the TBB officials on 8 July 1970.
St. Joseph's School was founded in the year 1970 by the Sisters of our Lady of Fatima. It is run by the Sisters of Sahayamata Premashrama Convent, T.B. Dam in accordance with the rules and regulations of the congregation.
It is an English Medium High School affiliated to the state board of Secondary Education Karnataka. The school conducts classes from Primary to High School. This school is dedicated to St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus Christ. He is the Patron of our school.
Every Josephite teacher and student must emulate by being simple, obedient, hard-working men and women in faith and courage to take their place with their counterparts in the world.
